2006
It’ll be here before we know it. Summer, Halloween, Thanksgiving, all done with, just like that. In a blink of an eye, the holidays will be over too; then the new year will be upon us. What will 2006 bring us? Who knows.
I think this year will show us whether or not poker has hit it’s peak. I for one do not think that it has. More and more donkeys are logging onto poker websites everyday; downloading their software; depositing their hard earned money, and trying to be like the degenerates that we all love to watch on ESPN. Good! Bring it on. Now, I’m no “shark” by any means, but I believe this will be my break out year. This is a new way of thinking for me. I’ve never actually had a plan of action before when it came to poker. I just played and hoped to win(hoped, being the key word). But now, I expect to win. I might as well not even play if I didn’t. Now though, I have a blueprint of what I want to accomplish, short term (it’s in my first blog; read it!)
What brought on this new way of thinking? Well, it’s not what, but who. None other than the “pretty famous on the internet” Bryan Micon. It happened after I called into NWP Radio after Micon had unmasked me as ‘MikeMatusow’ on NWP. I just wanted to call in and say, what’s up and what not. He began asking me some questions, and one of them went like, “Do you have any plans of blowing up any time soon?”, or something to that extent. I responded, “Obviously…yea”. I mean who doesn’t want to blow up and start balling? I do. But, it’s not something that I ever planned. Like I said, I just played and hoped to win. So, I started thinking about what I want to accomplish from poker. I want to win. That’s it. Just win. I never want to stop building my bankroll.
My #1 goal for the calendar year of 2006 is to build up my bankroll to 10k. As of today, November 30, 2005, I have a total roll of 600$ and change. Seems pretty lofty. Especially for a guy who is one-tabling 1/2$. But, I believe that I can accomplish this. As I stated before, I am grinding my way up 2k, then taking that and propping and getting into a rakeback program (DBI has some good ones). That is step one. Hopefully, that will be accomplished in the early part of the new year. Once I’m at that point, I plan on going balls-to-the-wall with poker; I mean playing constantly. Every free minute. Poker. Until it wears me out. I need to know if this is what I want to do as my primary source of income. I do not want to work a “regular” job for the rest of my years. But, do I want poker to take it’s place? I don’t know. But I fully intend on finding out whether or not I do.
Now, I am one lazy mother fucker. That much I know. I need to be pushed. Thankfully, CheckRaise has agreed to kick me in my ass when I need it. We talked last night about keeping eachother focused, and making sure we achieve our goals. I think we can get done what needs to be done. I know for sure, that I will definitely need some words of encouragement.
I’ve been a little busy so far this week, so I haven’t played much. However, Monday I made like 5$ and Tuesday, I made 15$ and change. WOOOO HOOOO!!!! No poker tonight, and I have bowling on Thursday, so it looks like most of my action will be on the weekend again.

I’m excited about this one! I started a similar type of blog last october when I played $20 heads up sit&go’s. the title was “Journey to the $1000 heads-up s&g’s”. Blogging helped keep me focused and 8 months later I reached my goal.
Good luck!
