The Poker Bus

Well today is really not going to be much about poker. I decided to get out of the house today and take a semi road trip. Not really a road trip but I dont get out of town much. I bought a new truck a little over 2 months ago and just broke 1000 miloes yesterday. So I decided to see if this 6th gear thing was all the hype. I headed out to go to Primm, which is on the Nevada/California border. They have some outlet mall there I thought I would hit up.

Well about 10 miles into the 35 it is to get there, it suddenly dawned on me it was Sunday. How you ask? Because traffic came to an abrubt stand still. Everyone s driving back to California on Sunday after blowing there wads all weekend. Anyways there aren’t many exits in the middle of the desert so I was waiting it out like everyone else. About 2/3 of the way there is Jean, Nevada. I get off here with the genius idea of just taking a back road to primm.

So, I get off the exit and head down a small road running parellel to the highway. There are a couple other cars doing the same. I travel down the road and see a sign that states “no outlet” and ignore accordinely. After anoth mile or so I see a sign that says “pavement ends” and get a little worried. The road goes back under the highway via a one lane tunnel and turns into desert. Well the one of the other cars pulls up beside me. He asks me if I’m gonna take the trail and points at a trail leading off in the distance. I replied, “What?!?!? Where does it go?” He said he didn’t know but its got to be better than the highway. He said if I lead, since I was in a truck, he would follow. I was a little hesitant, as it wouldnt be a big deal for me just to turn around and head back to Vegas. As I was about to say no, a Nissan Xterra pulls onto the scene and just high tails it up the trail witout even slowing down, so I said fuck it and followed.

Well Nissan must make a hell of an off road vehicle b/c after like 5 minutes I couldn’t even see him anymore. That terrein was rough. Much, much more rocky than I would have imagined. I couldn’t really get over 20mph. After about 5 minutes I was wondering what I got myself into. If it wasn’t for the other cars I was leading the way for, I probably would have turned back. Well the “trail” ended up being a little longer than I expected. All in all it was like 10 miles long and ended up running straight into the Whisky Pete’s parking lot in Primm, NV. It was an interesting trip through the desert, something I would defentiley not do again.

Well outlet shopping was alright. I bought a pair of New Balances 574 that I have owned like twice in the past. I should just really just buy like 5 pairs of them and just switch them out like once a year. I looked at some cheap watches. I had a decent watch before but I lost it and decided I’d better stay away from exspensive ones for awhile. I was at the fossil store and only seen one watch I liked. It was a DKNY watch with a huge face and silver with some yellow in the facing. There was only one problem, it was on one of those Dutch Boyd style, hide you suicide attempt scars, types of band that is like 3 inches thick. Well, Im not the dude from Tilt, so I wasn’t having it. I bought the watch and a rubberish band to replace the leather wristband with. I went with the rubber instead of leather or linked silver because I kinda like the look with the yellow. Its a little more sporty looking than I think would look right with leather and I wasn’t interested in trying to make it look like a “nice” watch.

So, I really didn’t plan on playing any poker today but I had to jump into the NWP tourney. After donatng ten dollars, I decided to jump on a 1-2 6max table to make it up real quick. Well that took a little longer than expected. I was 2 for my first 12 in showdowns won, and one of them was checked through and I won with K high. Before long I was like $80 down. Then I hit a tun and made a comback happen. I was actually going to quit with a loss if I got this typed out before I could make a comeback. Luckily on the last hand I held AA on a 3348A board with the Ace coming on the river. And yes I needed it to win. It was a pretty big pot as far as BB were concerned.
