A day of single-tabling online poker

By dbirider, 5. Feb 06.

For the first time in a while I played just one table of poker and I ended up having a really good session. Usually I log on to a poker site, open up four to eight poker tables and just play my hands by the book. Today I decided to play one short-handed NL table and try really hard to focus on the action and read hands.

The table fluctuated between two and five players but for the most part was three handed. The two other players that stuck around the longest were Erudis and nixos. Erudis wasn’t that bad but he blew off a bunch of chips a few times betting huge on the turn or the river with a weak hand trying to knock someone off a hand. He also mentioned in the chat box that he was multi tabling at Full Tilt also so he couldn’t be paying to much attention.

Nixos was a complete donk though. He seemed to have no understanding of poker. he often bet 7 – 9 bets preflop and continue with a huge bet on the flop. Other times he would limp in preflop from the small blind and then just grossly over bet any flop. I would often call down his bets to the river and then just bet anything knowing the board didn’t hit him and he’d fold.

Here’s an example of how crazy the action was.

Preflop:
Dealt to dbirider16 [ 6h, Qs ]
Erudis raises (6) to 6
nixos raises (9) to 10
dbirider16 folds.
Erudis raises (24) to 30
nixos raises (40) to 50
Erudis calls (20)
Amount put in preflop: $100

So there was a raise, a reraise, another reraise, and then another reraise and a call. I was thinking both must have had Jacks or better. Well the hand ended up going to the river and nixos who put in the last raise had T7s and Erudis had K7s. I guess those suited cards just look too good.

It was hard playing just one table. Everything moves a lot slower and I’m not used to having so much time to analyze a single table. But I ended up booking an ok win for the day and took my first step to ending my multi-tabling addiction.

Also I really don’t know how, but I some how stumbled across Harold H Wong’s very own website. Obviously a lot of time went into the making of this site so Check it out!

  2. Stop spamming your site here. And I suggest picking a new domain name because if your site gets remotely popular the WSOP will make you give it up to them. I know a few people who this happened to. Any large company won’t allow you use their name to make money.

  3. Very difficult to look at a hand in isolation apart from the other hands played, position, chip stacks, etc etc etc.

Can you, by chance, post the rest of the hand because I don’t remember this one at all.

  4. Hey,
I think you ended up winning a large pot with a flush and busting nixos. I don’t remember the details of the hand though. It was a fun table and nixos was just throwing around chips, so I don’t blame you for putting a lot in preflop with marginal hands. Once he busted and left the table I think I did also because I didn’t want to play you heads up.
