New Plan

By cth, 20. Nov 05.

Well kids, it’s been a tough few days on the DonkDown account. On Thursday night I dropped a little over 100 at 2/4 and swore off the game for awhile. Friday I didn’t play much besides donking out of a 10+1 MTT and messing around in some 1.50 No Limit Omaha Hi/Lo 18-person turbo sit and go’s with Wong and Scottyno. I lost another 20 on Saturday in a 9-person NL HE SNG (me 77 call 100 pre-flop. flop 10, 7, 3. Guy goes all in, I call (obv), he has KK. K on the turn, GG). So I was pretty pissed at myself then Checkraise signs on for the first time since the bad streak and gets semi-pissed, not that I blame him. Unfortunately me being a donkey caused him to be a donkey and tilt off about 90 at the 5/10 game on stars. So basically we suck.
However, I got inspired to try something that I hadn’t done in awhile: Heads up SNGs. ThePokerBus’ own DBI rider used to specialize in these things for some big limits including some 1k HU Sng’s vs. Scott Fischman. Anyway, I’m much more of a donk than that. I first tried a 10.50 one and won it easily. Wonger talked some strategy with me and I inspired him to try playing a lot of these again (he had done 40 HU NL Pai Gow $100 Sng’s per day for awhile). I believe he will try something similar to that, he may post about it, not sure.
Anyway, I proceeded to play seven 5.25 SNG’s and win 6 of them. So the grand total for the night is 1 win for 10 dollars, 6 wins for 30 dollars total, and 1 loss for -5 dollars. I’m satisfied with that and would like to maintain a 70% win rate for the 5.25 HU. Wong informs me that one has to win 55% to break even and a very good player is about 65%. I’m sure the very good players are not playing the donkey filled 5.25 HU NL HE SNG’s on Pokerstars. I tried two tabling these things and I was 3 for 4 while doing that but it seemed to make the games longer and my mind was working the entire time (I prefer it when my mind doesn’t work. Look up “lazy” in the dictionary, it’s probably something like what I just stated).

  1. Good luck with the heads up sit&go’s. They’re great for people who get really bored with being tight/agg and can’t help but play every other hand.

When elky used to play on pokerstars a lot he would do 8 $500+ heads up sit&go’s at a time, while chatting in some of them and playing at other rooms also… crazy!

  2. Yeah, I remember that I have no idea how he did it. That’s a good analysis of heads up players, I tend to get bored during tournies and ring games as well. So I would get on NWP and not pay attention to the particular game I was in and play badly because I wasn’t paying attention because I was bored.
